Introduction to the Interdisciplinary Doctoral School in African Development

The University Senghor's Interdisciplinary Doctoral School in African Development invites applicants to submit innovative, interdisciplinary doctoral research projects contributing to African or Haitian development.

Eligibility Criteria

Research Project Guidelines

The research project should articulate around the following points:

1. Introduction (2-4 pages): Introduce the general theme, specific problems, and research questions, justified by diverse, argued, and justified documentary sources.
2. Methodology (1-2 pages): Outline the general methodology, specifying its originality, pertinence, and feasibility, including type, location, duration, partners, procedures, statistical elements, and ethical considerations.
3. Operational Perspectives (1 page): Provide perspectives on the potential operational outcomes of the work, its appropriation, valorization, and contribution to sustainable development.
4. Bibliography (1-2 pages): List all references used in the project, following the APA model.

Subjects for Scholarship Candidates

Two subjects are proposed for candidates applying for the scholarship:

1. Intangible Cultural Heritage, Climate Change, and Community Resilience in Africa: A comparative transnational study exploring how intangible cultural heritage contributes to community resilience against climate change.
2. Towards Equitable and Sustainable Project Management in Africa: Rethinking initiation and governance practices to promote social justice and equitable partnerships for sustainable development.

Profile of Candidates

For Sujet nｰ1, candidates should hold a Master's degree in humanities, social sciences, or environmental sciences, with a double competence or willingness to combine these fields. Experience in African fieldwork and interest in participatory approaches are assets. For Sujet nｰ2, candidates should hold a Master's degree in project management, social sciences, or a related discipline, with knowledge of the African context, openness to critical approaches, and ability to combine academic rigor with field engagement.

Scholarship Details

Selected candidates will receive a monthly allowance for 3 years and a support budget for research activities, scientific meetings, and laboratory stays. They are expected to reside in Alexandria for at least 2 years of the 3-year scholarship period.
